Support services poster, methodology
Credo’s selection of its 22 exemplar support services companies is part art, part science and part preference.

Edition: Different Models, Similar Challenges.

Support services is an elastic term. We include a ranking of the top 10 companies in the FTSE support services classification, yet many of these don’t make our selection.

Instead we see the essence of support services in the coming together of the markets for construction, FM (hard and soft) and IT/BPO. We provide league tables for these.

These individual markets (IT, BPO, et al) are easy-ish to define. We used a variety of methods to generate rankings, nothing too scientific, just something that fitted the bill. PFI/PPP is a common thread linking the sectors so we added a ranking for this.

Our 22 companies were then plucked from these lists. We had a bias to British players, to listed companies and to companies with high profiles. We favoured companies we find interesting and companies we know. We tried to get a selection from different markets and discriminated against ‘pure plays’ like the caterers.

We might do another poster some day. Candidates for promotion? BT, Reliance, Liberata, Fujitsu...

We enjoyed putting the poster together, and trust you find it interesting.
