Private equity slowdown
2007 was a record year for private equity. And business and support services was one of the most active sectors.

CMBOR reckons £7bn was spent by PE in our sectors. That’s 15% of the total and three times up on 2006. This compares with a doubling of deal value across all sectors in 2007 compared to the average of previous years, refer to the chart.

We provide a selection of notable deals since January 2007 in the box. We were lucky enough to work on many of these. It was quite a year.

If we’re sounding nostalgic it’s because 2007 was over by September. CMBOR reported an 80% fall in deal volume in Q4.

We’re still working on deals. Private equity still draws on deep wells of financial and human resource. But it’ll take a while for the good times to return.
