In 1998 I graduated from Cambridge University with a double first in Natural Science. Keen to travel and gain an understanding of business, I joined ICI's fast track program in Gouda, Holland. This was a program designed to give sales and marketing recruits grounding in business before they specialised.
As the time came to specialise, I was still seeking greater breadth of experience so I joined Credo in February 2000. I didn't expect to stay long, intending to move on once the learning curve had flattened out to join a traditional firm again. I'm now in my fifth year, and still enjoying it! Credo still has a lot to offer me.
Credo specialises in a number of sectors, but Credo consultants are all generalists. This gives us exposure to a spectrum of different business issues across a range of industries. My projects here have ranged from high-level strategy pieces (the bulk of our work) to financial modelling for M&A cases, to system implementations. Projects here are typically a couple of months long, so cross-sector experience happens quickly.
Company culture was key to my decision to join Credo. This is a firm characterised by a team of sharp, hard working individuals, just like those you associate with the most well known brands but with the added bonus that Credo consultants are all down-to-earth people, and they're fun to be around. This attitude not only shapes the work environment within the firm but also facilitates strong, enviable working relationships with our clients.
Credo gives consultants high client exposure from the start. This is important as consulting is a career in which you will reap more rewards from on the job learning than from formal training. It also enables our consultants to see the practical application of their work.
Two years into my career at Credo I was managing small cases and presenting work to clients. More recently, I have been involved in high profile strategic reviews for listed clients. My latest case involved setting the strategic direction for two out of five business units of a FTSE 250 support services firm.
Credo takes personal goals and motivations seriously and actively seeks individuals who are proactive in shaping their career. Credo also knows the true meaning of work-life balance. I recently took two months leave to travel around Australasia. Credo's willingness to fit my needs alongside those of the firm is something I really value.
